Beam shape sensing with SpectraFBG-TDM interrogator

Typical application where SpectraFBG-TDM interrogator can be utilized is multi-point shape sensing. Aluminum beam in this demonstration is used to mimic wind turbine rotor blades, railway beams, airplane wings, structural beams and other similar structures.

This demonstration utilizes an array of 16 fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) arranged in a differential configuration at 8 sensing locations on an aluminum beam with dimensions 0.1 m × 0.04 m × 3 m. The sensing locations are evenly spaced along the 3 m beam length (the spacing can be adjusted to meet specific application requirements).
A SpectraFBG-TDM interrogator forms the core of the measurement system, enabling real-time readout of 8 sensing FBG pairs and demonstrating the system’s capability for advanced structural monitoring applications.
